Vox Populi Vox Dei 2: Using The Most Powerfull Level Design Tools

27 12 2009

When ask something like “What’s the most powerfull level/game design tool?”, most of the people will say “Unreal Engine”, “Unity 3D”, “Torque”, etc.

I don’t think so. I think the most powerfull game/level design tool is a sketchbook and a pencil. It’s easy see why:

* They are cheap.
* They fit in your jean’s rear pocket.
* They are almost indestructible.
* The battery never runs out of power.
* They have zero boot time.
* They really get the job done.

And the most rewarding thing is hear the people asking “How this guy can to that just with pencil and paper?”.

Remember: a lot of people will try to make you think that some fancy tools are “THE BEST GAME DESIGN/LEVEL DESING TOOLS IN THE UNIVERSE”, but that’s because they are surely trying to sell you the tool or the game created by that tool.

The most powerfull software tool will never give you the inspiration, and this beauty(inspiration) strikes in the most unexpected moments(in the train, in the middle of the night, in the waiting room of a dentist, etc). When this happens, you will really want a zero time boot tool like the sketchbook(if the pages are squared printed is the best).

Farewell, and keep looking to the sky!

Vox Populi Vox Dei 2 – Oficially Started

21 12 2009

Yesterday I officially start the development of “Vox Populi, Vox Dei 2″.

It takes me to long to start this development because 2009 was a very hard year for me: difficult decisions in the job, big changes on my life and, since some months ago, the middle age crisis hit me as hard as you can imagine.

So this is it, I’ll be working on this hoping give you a new game focused on the principles that once upon a time give birth to the first “vox populi”.

I don’t know how much time will take me this time. I feel that create a game should be fun, a rewarding activity by itself.

I’ll try to post photographs of my desktop, ongoing work, concepts and things like that, hoping that this kind of information helps to other that are trying to find their path in life just like me.

Thanks for all your nice comments and support. I’ll work hard in this new release to don’t let you down people.

Farewell! and keep looking to the sky!(sorry for the rusty english)
